A natural gum harvested from the Acacia senegal and Acacia seyal trees, primarily in Sudan and the Sahel region of Africa. Collected by making cuts in the bark.

Soft drinks (used to keep flavor compounds suspended), sweets, chewing gum, pharmaceutical tablets, wine, some confectionery coatings.

Notes

One of the oldest food additives known. Completely plant-derived. Used extensively in cola drinks and other carbonated beverages to keep flavor oils emulsified. Also a key ingredient in some watercolor paints and calligraphy inks.
