Lanolin alcohol is a mixture of sterols and other alcohols separated from lanolin. Lanolin itself is wool wax secreted by sheep skin and recovered during wool processing.

The word alcohol does not indicate a synthetic origin. It identifies one chemical fraction of animal-derived lanolin.
Lanolin contains wax esters, free alcohols, sterols and fatty acids. Processing separates the alcohol-rich fraction sold as Lanolin Alcohol or wool wax alcohol.
This is a direct lanolin derivative. A formula that excludes Lanolin but lists Lanolin Alcohol still contains a sheep-derived ingredient.
